I would recommend Northallerton Osteopaths and not only just Jo but all the staff to anyone, any day. Everyone is wonderful, kind and welcoming and guaranteed to help you when you have them aches and pains.” Miss S Dodds, ThirskRoss GemmellMOstDirector / OsteopathRoss graduated in 2015 from Leeds Beckett University. On graduation, he was awarded the Deans Prize for Osteopathic Excellence.Ross first discovered Osteopathy at 16 years of age as a result of an incident whilst playing football, which left him suffering from low back pain & sciatica. Over the course of a year he sought advice from various health care professionals with no improvement, before finally visiting his local Osteopath where he finally got some pain relief along with a diagnosis for his condition. Ross was extremely impressed at his Osteopath's understanding of the body and how he was able to relieve him of his pain just through hands-on manipulation. So much so, that on Ross' first session with his Osteopath he began questioning what you need to do in order to become an Osteopath, and with a little guidance from him Ross went on to apply for his Osteopathy degree at 17 and has never looked back since. In order to continue his professional development, he has completed further training in Kinesio-Taping, Dry Needling and Cranial Osteopathy. He has a keen interest in Osteopathic Sports Care and Rehabilitation but likes to treat a wide range of conditions and injuries seeing patients of all ages. Early in his career he spent time working with semi-professional football teams, but left to develop his private practice work. After 2 years at Croft House Clinic, Ross and Jo went into business together in order to move premises to Hale House in 2017 and expand the business. In 2019 Ross was made a partner at Northallerton Osteopaths and in 2022 Ross become a partner at our sister clinic Easingwold Osteopaths. We believe in a holistic approach to healing and our experienced practitioners reflect this in their work. Rather than treating only the symptoms, our practitioners treat the person as a whole in order to find the cause of a condition. AwardsUK Practice of the Year 2023 Finalist (Institute of Osteopathy). UK - Practice of the Year - 2024 Finalist (Institute of Osteopathy). 1994Joanna Waterworth established Northallerton Osteopaths where she was originally based in South Parade as a sole practitioner.1999Expansion prompted the move to Croft House on Crosby Road, when Croft House Clinic was established as Northallerton's first multi-disciplinary complementary healthcare clinic .2009(Our sister clinic Easingwold Osteopaths was founded.)2017We expanded again as Joanna and Ross began their business partnership and moved into our new premises at Hale House.Northallerton Osteopaths established itself as a limited company with Joanna and Ross as clinical directors. We are now one of the largest complementary healthcare clinics in North Yorkshire. All our consultation rooms are now on the ground floor, offering full disabled access, there is free off-road parking in front of the clinic for our patients and we have an in-house studio where yoga, pilates and such like classes take place."They have me back on my feet in 3 weeks after severe back spasms. I have used Northallerton Osteopaths for last 2 years. Highly recommended, I wouldn’t use anyone else" Miss A Finley, NorthallertonClinic Video Tour"Struggling to walk with a very painful right hip, my daughter recommended Northallerton Osteopaths. My first visit confirmed Sciatica and a course of treatment was advised. A big thank you to all the staff at Northallerton Osteopaths for helping me feel back to normal" Mrs P Ward, NorthallertonWhat to Expect - Initial ConsultationConsentAll patients are given a consent form to read through and sign. This gives you details of what you can expect as a patient and asks for your written consent so that we may assess and treat you.Case History You will then be introduced to your practitioner and will be asked to give a full account of your symptoms along with information about your lifestyle, general health and past medical history.ExaminationYou will normally be asked to remove some of your clothing so that your osteopath can view the area of concern and a detailed assessment can be made. This will include observing your posture and movements to assess how your whole body relates mechanically to your complaint. Clinical and orthopaedic tests will be carried out where relevant. Some patients prefer to bring sports shorts to wear. Ladies might chose to wear a thin vest top.Diagnosis & Treatment Plan -Your osteopath will make a diagnosis and if appropriate, a treatment plan can then be agreed with you. Often, lifestyle advice such as work posture adjustments or suitable exercises are recommended.Overall an initial consultation takes around 45-60 minutes and will include a treatment if appropriate. In some cases osteopathic treatment may not be appropriate for you. If this happens we will discuss this with you and advise you on who you should speak to- for example your GP, or in some cases an alternative practitioner. What to Expect - Osteopathic TreatmentOur osteopaths use their hands to assess, diagnose and treat you. Osteopaths are highly skilled in their sense of touch (palpation) and they use these skills to observe imbalances and dysfunction in the joints and soft tissue structures of the musculo-skeletal system (muscles, ligaments, capsules, fascia and tendons). Once the inter-relationship of these neighbouring structures is understood, they use a range of highly skilled techniques to treat the patient.Treatments vary from patient to patient but may include:Soft tissue massageJoint articulation with varying degrees of subtletyRhythmic stretchingJoint manipulationExercise prescription"I have been attending Northallerton Osteopaths for three years for regular treatment in the care of an osteopath. I recommend the practice for the professional attention I have received, the friendly and efficient reception and pleasant premises"Mr J Dack, ThirskHow to Find UsWe are easy to find at Hale House, just opposite Mill Hill Lane, Northallerton.Northallerton Osteopaths LtdHale House62 Thirsk RoadNorthallertonDL7 1PLWe have limited patient parking to the front of Hale House. If we have enough demand we will open weekends again.FAQsWhat should I wear? Do I have to get undressed? It is useful for your osteopath to see the area causing the problem. You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothing so that a detailed assessment can be made. Some patients prefer to bring sports shorts to wear. Ladies might chose to wear a thin vest top. You can request that your osteopath leaves the room whilst you undress if you are more comfortable with this.Do I need to be referred by my GP?No, you can choose to see an osteopath without a referral. Indeed most of our patients come to us via word of mouth from family or friends. We do have excellent communications with our local GP practices and with your permission, we let your GP know that you have attended to ensure that they are kept up to date about your health. How many treatments will I need? This varies from individual to individual. In a recent audit of the clinic over 60% of our patients have their problem resolved within 3 visits, and 90% within 6 treatments. If you are suffering from a long-term problem it may take longer to notice an improvement.Additionally, more people are recognising the need to look after their own health more and they elect to attend for regular maintenance treatments to keep on top of symptoms. What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapist's day that could have been offered to another patient - we often have a waiting list. As such, we require a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancellations or any changes to your appointment. Missed appointments or cancellations within 24 hours may be charged up to the full session fee.Prepaid online appointments that are cancelled with more than 24 hours notice will be issued with a full refund.Do you have disabled access? We do have disabled access for wheelchair users. All our treatment rooms are on the ground floor.Do you need to see my GP first?Since osteopathy does not use any drugs or invasive treatment, it is not necessary to consult a GP beforehand. However, if you have a complicated medical history, a GP consultation is recommended. If you have more questions related to osteopathy, you can get in touch with our team on the number mentioned below. What's the difference between an Osteopath and a Chiropractor? Please read our blog post on the topic here. Are you compliant with the new GDPR regulations?Yes we are. There is a link to our privacy policy at the bottom of every webpage.Does osteopathic treatment hurt?We adapt treatment to suit you. Because you are in pain when you seek our help, some of the areas we touch are likely to be tender but we will work at a level that you are comfortable with.It is normal for you to feel a little achy and stiff after a treatment, this will usually resolve within 24 to 48 hours after treatment. If it does not settle or you are worried please call the clinic to speak to your practitioner. Can I use my health insurance? Most private health insurance policies will cover osteopathic treatment, but please check your policy before you book as some providers will require that you are referred to us by your GP and/or that the practitioner is registered with the insurance company. How much will it cost?Click Prices for our price list.We are recognised providers for Bupa, AXAPP, WPA, Simply Health and other Private Health Plans. If you have private medical insurance, then please see whether your policy covers for Osteopathy or Acupuncture. Feel free to call and check whether your practitioner is a registered provider. Not all practitioners are registered with all of the above mentioned insurance providers. Is the clinic child friendly?Yes, we have a range of toys and books to keep young children occupied whilst you are treated or to distract them during their own treatment. We also have a downstairs toilet which has space to change nappies and we provide a potty. Prams can be brought into our treatment rooms or left in reception. Can I bring a friend or relative?Yes, this is absolutely fine. We ask that children under the age of 16 should always be accompanied by a parent to their first appointment. If you cannot bring a friend or relative but would still like a chaperone, then we can provide one for you.Can I receive treatment if I am pregnant?A pregnancy is extremely demanding on a woman’s body and may lead to problems like lower and mid back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, pelvic pain, post-natal coccyx and symphysis pubis pain and symphysis pubis disorder. Osteopathic treatments can relieve these problems while helping the body adapt to the many changes that occur during a pregnancy. What's the difference between an Osteopath and a Physio? Please read our blog post on the topic here.GalleryMAKE A BOOKING01609 783 600CLICK HERE TO EMAILClinic LocationHale House62 Thirsk RdNorthallertonNorth YorkshireDL6 1PLAppointmentsWe are currently open Monday to Friday, offering appointments from 9am-6pm, with our evening sessions running until 7-8pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Anne Thompson, NorthallertonTherapiesOsteopathyAn Osteopath uses hands-on techniques to treat a wide variety of pains originating from the joints, muscles, nerves and ligaments. Osteopaths are highly trained in the diagnosis & treatment of neck pain, back pain, hip pain, shoulder pain, knee pain and more. Through their training they have developed a highly sensitive sense of touch which they use to assess their patients.Cranial OsteopathyA Cranial Osteopaths uses a highly trained sense of touch to feel subtle changes of tension and imbalances throughout the whole body. Gentle pressure is applied to mobilise the head, spine and other areas of the body in order to release physical stress. A wide range of conditions can be treated by Cranial Osteopaths.Paediatric OsteopathyOur osteopaths treat babies, children and teenagers. It uses a range of techniques including sports massage, joint mobilisation and bespoke rehabilitation exercises.Sports MassageSports Massage compliments Osteopathy and Sports Therapy and is a technique used to release tension within muscles. Sports Massage can be used to treat sports injuries causing shoulder pain, neck pain, knee pain, back pain, hip pain or foot pain. Some patients find it useful to opt for a regular maintenance appointment to manage their condition.Remedial MassageRemedial Massage involves working on tissues with a variety of levels and can often be used following an Injury or Strain causing pain to the neck, hip, knee, shoulder or back. As well as this it can be used on a regular basis to 'maintain' well being.PodiatryA Biomechanical Podiatrist is a clinician that specialises in problems of the lower limb and feet that can affect your lower limb, back and gait. Medical Herbalists are trained in similar diagnostics and clinical skills to orthodox doctors but they treat in a holistic way by seeking and identifying the underlying cause of the problem, not just the symptoms of the disease.ReflexologyReflexology is a type of massage that involves applying different amounts of pressure to the feet, hands, and ears. It’s based on a theory that these body parts are connected to certain organs and body systems and applying pressure to them may alleviate stress in these areas. Our reception staff have been trained to handle your queries and advise on which Therapy may suit your needs best. I visited after breaking my back following a bike crash. I was in constant severe pain, and wanted recovery plus coming back fitter and stronger than I was before the crash. Over the 5 months I have visited Ross he is got me back on my bike, riding abroad and even more importantly addressing previous issues in terms of inflexibility etc. I would hugely recommend Ross and his team to anyone needing help with injury recovery or inflexibility. They both aim to improve the physical health and quality of life for the patients that they see. However, what can differ is the way that they go about this and the type of patients that they may see. Whilst there is some crossover and certain conditions can be successfully treated by either professional, it is important you understand the difference between the two as your condition may be better suited to one profession over the other. To find out how they differ, click to read out blog post below.OSTEO AND PHYSIO, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?GUIDE TO OSTEOPATHY, PHYSIOTHERAPY & CHIROPRACTICWhat's the difference between an Osteopath and Chiropractor? We are often asked what is the difference between an osteopath and chiropractor.
