I love my work and the real sense of satisfaction that is achieved when you make someone who has been in pain comfortable again and allow them to return to their normal activities. Physiotherapy is such a rewarding profession and I feel lucky that I am able to persue a career that I regard as a hobby as well. So, who am I? I am a Chartered Physiotherapist and I run my practice from a purpose built clinic from home. What is a Chartered Physio you may well ask? This is the most important part of my qualifications, it means that the degree that I studied was a recognised course endorsed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and through this I am a member of the Health Professionals Council. (our regulatory bodies). Unless you have these qualifications and are registered then you are not allowed to call yourself a Physiotherapist. If you wish to check my registration then please go to the Health Professionals Council's website www.hpc-uk.org and enter my name under the online registration section. I am also a member of the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice and the *Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. I qualified in 1996 having spent 4 years studying at the University of East London where I gained my BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy. When I qualified I spent 2 years working in Bromley Hospitals NHS Trust as a junior physiotherapist rotating around the many specialities that we physio's cover. I gained promotion very quickly to Senior Physiotherapist and began to spend more time in the different areas. I then moved home to Colchester and spent 5 years working at Colchester General Hospital again as a Senior Physiotherapist, initially full time and then part time whilst I took time to have my two children. However I have always worked during my maternity leave as I ran a clinic at the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook, Suffolk once a week during School term time. There I worked with both the staff and pupils on both acute and chronic conditions throughout a range of conditions including sports injuries and back pain. I gained further promotion and helped to set up the Hydrotherapy and acute back pain services at the Hospital. Since qualifiying I have attended many further education courses and keep it at the forefront of my mind to continually maintain my profession standards. I have been practising from Lexden since 2004 and have enjoyed meeting and helping so many people. Remember, no problem is too small. Don't leave it and think it will just go away, often these things don't and with a little gentle persuasion can be easily sorted to allow painfree activity once again. It is also worth bearing in mind that the sooner you seek treatment, the less treatment you will need which ultimately costs you less!
