Some of our consultants need you to see your GP, or one of our private GPs, to get a referral prior to your consultation. Please check with our customer service team on 01926 436351 to check before you book an appointment. How long would it take me to get an appointment? Each specialty has varying wait times, however we ensure all private patients are seen as soon as possible. Our appointments are designed to be flexible around your needs and activities. Can I see a consultant for an appointment after work or at the weekend? Outpatient services operate during the following hours: Monday: 08:00 – 20:00 Tuesday: 08:00 – 21:00 Wednesday: 08:00 – 21:00 Thursday: 08:00 – 21:00 Friday: 08:00 – 20:00 Saturday: 08:00 – 14:00 Post-operatively, if a consultant decides they need to see a patient urgently, this will be co-ordinated by our out-of-hours team. The hospital is open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year for our patients’ convenience. Can I choose which consultant I wish to see? Yes, as a private patient you can choose your consultant. Would my surgery be conducted by a junior doctor? No, our hospital only works with consultants and therefore you can be assured of the highest level of clinical care. Warwickshire Hospital is vigorous in its cleaning standards and keeping our hospitals clean and free of MRSA and C.difficule is a top priority. As a result, the risk of infection to patients is very low. When can my family visit if I’m an inpatient? Day case patients - Patients can have one visitor* with them for the duration of their stay. Inpatients - Patients can have one visitor* per day between the hours of 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. *Please note that children under the age of 16 can only visit under exceptional circumstances with prior agreement. Is there parking available? Free parking is available at the front of the hospital. Please note, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are installed in the car park therefore all visitors should ensure that car registration details are entered on the consoles, which can be found in the reception area, upon arrival. Is there accommodation nearby where my family can stay? Should your relatives or friends wish to stay locally there are a number of hotels and bed and breakfasts which we can recommend. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate your visitors overnight. I am disabled/require assistance during my visit, who do I need to tell? Please let our staff know your requirements when you contact us. We are happy to make suitable arrangements before your visit. If you’d like to bring a friend or family member, please feel free to do so. You would need to see your GP or one of our private GPs who will then make a referral to see one of our consultants. We endeavour to ensure all private patients will be seen within a few days and at a time that is convenient for you. Our appointments are designed to be flexible around your needs and activities. Can I see a consultant for an appointment after work or at the weekend? Our outpatient services operate from 08:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday and Saturday 09:00 - 15:00. Post operatively, if a consultant decided they needed to see a patient urgently this would be co-ordinated by our out of hours team. The hospital is open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year for our patients’ convenience. Can I choose which consultant I wish to see? Yes, as a private patient you can choose your consultant. Do you offer treatment for children? No, unfortunately no under 18s can be seen or treated at Nuffield Wessex Hospital. Would my surgery be conducted by a junior doctor? No, our hospital only works with consultants and therefore you can be assured of the highest level of clinical care. Your appointments, surgery and follow ups will be conducted by your consultant. What are your hospital infection rates? Wessex Hospital is vigorous in its cleaning standards and keeping our hospitals clean and free of MRSA and C.difficile is a top priority. As a result, the risk of infection to patients is very low. When can my family visit if I’m an inpatient? Our visiting hours are between 10:00 and 20:00. Your recovery is of paramount importance, and you may find that you are very tired following surgery. With this in mind visitors are encouraged to leave by 18:30. Is there parking available? Yes, our hospital has a large car park and operates under a parking eye system which requires you to register your car at reception on arrival. Some consultants will see children, it is best to call and check before you make an appointment. I am coming to the hospital for a procedure what do I need to know? Please read our patient guides on MRSA and reducing your risk of developing a blood clot. Would my surgery be conducted by a junior doctor? No, our hospital only works with consultants and therefore you can be assured of the highest level of clinical care. Your appointments, surgery and follow-ups will be conducted by your consultant. What are your hospital infection rates? Cambridge Hospital is vigorous in its cleaning standards and keeping our hospitals clean and free of MRSA and C.difficule is a top priority. As a result, the risk of infection to patients is very low. When can my family visit if I am an inpatient or day case patient? We are open for patient visitors between 7am and 8pm. This includes 2 visitors per patient on the ward and 1 visitor per patient in the day case suite at any one time. Is there parking available? We have free on-site parking, please register your vehicle on the tablets at any of our reception desks. Is there accommodation nearby where my family can stay? Should your relatives or friends wish to stay locally there are a number of hotels and bed and breakfasts which we can recommend. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate your visitors overnight. Yes, a referral Is needed for you to have any type of diagnostic test done, your consultant will refer you for any test required after your clinic appointment. Can you recommend a consultant? We are unable to make recommendations, a full directory of our consultants can be found on our website. Do you book appointments for all consultants? We do not hold all the diaries for our consultants, in some cases their medical secretary's book for them and we will provide you with their contact information. Do you provide health insurance? We do not provide health insurance, all providers of this can be found online. Do you provide medical loans? Nuffield Health does not provide medical loans however we do work closely with a finance company, and we can provide you with their detail if you wish. More information can be found here. When will I receive my personalised quote for my procedure? After your initial consultation the medical secretary will contact our quotes team who will provide you with a written quote. This will either be emailed or sent to you in the post. If you decide to go ahead, payment will be required in full 7 days before your procedure. What type of patients do you see at the Nuffield? We treat privately paying patients, patients with medical insurance and we also do some work for the NHS. What do I do if my NHS GP cannot provide a referral? You can contact the private GPs who will be able to help you. Is there a way we can learn more about the procedures and what is involved? We hold free open events at the hospital where you can meet the consultant and find out more about a procedure and what can be expected with regards to recovering and any complications that could arise. We offer a blood service to have blood tests performed you will either need a blood form from your consultant or you can book the blood tests you need via Pathology Direct; this service allows you to pick your own tests, pay for them and then book them online to attend the hospital. How am I charged for an outpatient consultation as a self-pay patient? If treatment is undertaken during a consultation in our outpatient’s department you will receive two invoices; one from the consultant for their time and expertise and another from the hospital for the use of consumables, equipment used and staff assisting, plus the blood tests. These two invoices will be sent out separately and are to be paid to either the consultant or the hospital. Before any blood tests you would be asked by an outpatient nurse to sign an outpatient charge sheet, this will record the blood tests being taken and the fee, this will be included in the invoice as mentioned above. How am I charged for an outpatient consultation as an insured patient? Before coming for your appointment please speak to your insurance company to confirm what tests and treatments are covered by your policy and ask for your authorisation code. Always keep your insurance company up to date on any treatment suggested by your consultant during your outpatient consultation to ensure this is recorded for them to cover you. How do I notify a change to my personal details that are recorded at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital? On booking an appointment either via your consultant's secretary or via the Nuffield Booking Team, remember to inform them of any changes, however small. No. We don’t store credit card details in any of our systems. Patient notices about procedures Symbios ORIGIN® Posterior Stabilised Patient-Matched Total Knee Replacement Device The MHRA was alerted to a significantly higher revision rate observed with the ORIGIN PS patient-matched total knee replacement. The ORIGIN PS variant demonstrates a revision rate (per 100 patient years) that is at least two times higher than all other bicondylar knee replacements in the UK. As a precautionary measure, Symbios Orthopédie SA has initiated a voluntary suspension of all further sales and implantations, alongside a recall of all variants of the ORIGIN device family within the UK<.br> For patients implanted with the ORIGIN PS variant, there is an increased risk of requiring an operation to replace the device.. The data shows 8 revisions from 149 primary implantations over a period of approximately 6 years. Patients have undergone revisions for aseptic loosening, malalignment, stiffness, and instability. For patients implanted with the CR variant, there is no evidence to suggest an increased risk of revision, however the manufacturer has opted to expand the scope to include the entire ORIGIN device family as a precaution. Nuffield Health have contacted all patients and informed them that they should return for a follow up visit within 12 months and that they will soon be invited by the NJR to complete an evaluation of their knee joint replacement. CPT Hip System Femoral Stem 12/14 Neck Taper: Increased Risk of Postoperative Periprosthetic Femoral Fracture The Medicines Health and Regulatory Authority (MHRA) recently published a field safety notice (FSN) relating to CPT Hip System Femoral Stem 12/14 Neck Taper Implants. Within the FSN it details that evidence shows there is an increased risk of postoperative periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF). The risk of this complication has risen from 0.7% to 1.4%. While the risk of this fracture occurring is low, this is more than twice the risk of PFF compared to similar PTS stems that are not made of cobalt chromium. There are no specific actions for patients already implanted with a CPT Hip System. Continue to follow the guidance and advice of your surgeon. However following this publication, the manufacturer will cease to supply these implants in December 2024. Nuffield will no longer be implanting these devices as a precautionary measure. Metal on metal hip replacements The Medicines Health and Regulatory Authority (MHRA) has revised its guidance on reviews for patients who have undergone metal on metal implant surgery. The Medicines Health and Regulatory Authority (MHRA) has revised its guidance on reviews for patients who have undergone metal on metal implant surgery. As a result of the changes, all patients with these implants are now advised to have their blood metal level tested according to MHRA guidelines and some may require ultrasound or MRI scans. As a result of this new guidance, Nuffield Health have contacted patients who we believe received Metal on Metal Implants at our hospitals.If you were treated in a Nuffield Health hospital for a joint replacement and believe you received a metal on metal hip implant but have not yet been contacted by us, you can find out if you might be advised to be tested by contacting the Matron at the Nuffield Hospital you had your hip surgery. Transvaginal mesh for repair of anterior or posterior vaginal wall prolapse Following guidelines issued by NICE regarding transvaginal mesh repair of anterior or posterior vaginal wall prolapse, we will be fully implementing their recommendations and will no longer be using mesh in this procedure. The NHS are now responsible for commissioning specialised services for women with complications of mesh inserted for urinary incontinence and vaginal prolapse. A list of hospitals selected to provide these specialist services and a series of patient information leaflets can be accessed here: https://bsug.org.uk/pages/for-patients/mesh-information-leaflets/156. This information is aimed to support decision making and we encourage all patients considering this type of surgery to use these leaflets as a basis for discussion with your Consultant, GP, hospital care team and family or friends. For patients who have already undergone their procedure, there is currently no guidance from regulators regarding what if any action should be taken. Until such guidance is provided, we are not advising any interventions but encourage any women who have concerns and were treated at one of our hospitals to get in touch with us by calling 0300 123 1907. Cataract lens implants with EyeCee One preloaded and EyeCee One Crystal preloaded intraocular lenses (IOLs) The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulation Agency (MHRA) have been made aware there is some concern that an increased pressure in the eye has been found in a small number of patients who have received EyeCee One preloaded and EyeCee One Crystal preloaded intraocular lenses (IOLs) since September 2022. Having high pressure in your eye can lead to damage to your optic nerve and vision loss if left untreated. In response to this, Nuffield Health have contacted patients who we believe received these lenses and invited them to an appointment to have their eye pressure measured as soon as possible. If you have attended a Nuffield Health hospital for eye surgery since September 2022 and believe you received an EyeCee One preloaded or EyeCee One Crystal preloaded intraocular lens, but our team has not been able to contact you, please contact the Nuffield Health Hospital where you had your eye surgery. They will be able to advise you if eye pressure testing is required and if so an appointment can be arranged. Contact details can be found here. Total Knee Replacement surgery using Zimmer Biomet NexGen® Stemmed Option Tibial Components The National Joint Registry (NJR) and Zimmer Biomet (the manufacturer), have identified that the NexGen® Stemmed Option Tibial Components, when paired with either the Legacy® Posterior Stabilized (LPS) Flex Option Femoral or the LPS Flex Gender Solutions Femoral (GSF) Option Femoral, have a higher revision rate than other total knee replacements. In response to this, Nuffield Health is contacting patients who we believe have been implanted with these combinations of components and invite them to an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon to review their knee. Each month, we report on the Safety, Effectiveness and Experience aspects of quality across our organisation to our operational Boards. A detailed review is presented to the Board Quality and Safety Committee (BQSC) each quarter. Launch of Secondary Care Professional Leadership: Assurance Network Ensure appointees are highly experienced and capable of overseeing Quality Assurance in their specialism centrally, and at hospital sites Ensure appointees work within a professional role on site each week, maintaining clinical expertise and credibility within their specialism Ensure appointees deliver clinical development and change within the hospitals, inspiring the clinical teams directly involved in patient care Ensure appointees chair and co-chair Expert Advisory Groups within the organisation, motivating the clinical talent of the MDT within the specialty Ensure appointees are capable of engaging with peers and colleagues across the NHS and the independent healthcare sector, influencing policy and development of national guidelines Ensure appointees are members of key professional organisational boards, keeping Nuffield Health at the forefront of strategic development within the specialism.
