We currently employ approximately 40 staff, all directly employed in the delivery of building services and spread across all of our offices. Our experience covers many sectors including healthcare, education (schools, colleges and universities), leisure, commercial offices, historic buildings, museums and galleries, retail accommodation, laboratories, industrial developments and others. We work on a wide range of project types including new build and refurbishments, procured via traditional design team led commissions and via design and build contractors. As a wholly owned private limited liability partnership, each Director is actively involved in each project and is directly accessible throughout the course of all projects. Our engineers strive to understand the needs and expectations of the Client, and to create environments for improved performance, comfort and efficiency. Our success is born from our ability to adapt in a continually changing environment, staying abreast of the latest technology, legislation and, of course, by maintaining close relationships with our Clients. Want To Discuss A Project? Contact us Accreditations Contact Us Testimonials Contact Us Throughout both Phases 1a and 1b, TGA continuously support, guide and provide the very best technical support for the project, TGA then worked with us on Phase 1c along with other projects on site. Property and Facilities Manager, Durham Cathedral Jo Hughes TGA provided “an excellent proposal in practical and design terms” for the redevelopment scheme at Auckland Castle. Supporting a “compelling case for the Heritage Lottery Fund to invest a significant sum in what we are seeking to do”. David Ronn Chief Executive, Auckland Castle Trust TGA have provided an exceptional service on DUMSCS project. TGA were involved in this BIM Level 2 scheme from the end of Stage 3 and quickly got to grips with the specific project requirements. TGA had a dedicated resource to support the design team and the site installation team. The approach to closing out clashes was very proactive and worked well, with TGA collaborating and working well with the wider design team and SRM. Regional Building Services Manager, Sir Robert McAlpine Paul Taylor I have worked with TGA on numerous occasions and have always found them to be professional and respectful as an organisation. The individuals within TGA are always willing to go the extra mile. Their approach to collaboration has ensured that we are ahead of the curve with regard to changes in Legislation and Regulations. Demonstrating skill and knowledge in every aspect of their business, from their interrogation of scheme particulars to presenting findings and providing alternative recommendations for improvements. TGA have contributed to bringing Willmott Dixon Construction more success. It is my opinion TGA are dedicated to their clients and will bring their collective expertise to the table in order to make any new ventures a success. Senior Design Co-ordinator, Willmott Dixon Stuart Ablett During the construction of the Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC) TGA were engaged to complete the Construction, design and installation information on behalf the M&E contractor. Their involvement from an early stage enabled the building model to be developed with actual manufacturers information, which provided detailed installation information. The flexible approach delivered by TGA enabled builders work holes in structural elements to be detailed very early in the programme, which had cost and programme benefits. A Level 2 BIM model was required for the project, with TGA being very proactive in developing this and guided the site team and other team members with the delivery of their respective elements. TGA helped to provide a very technically demanding building successfully, which incorporated complex MEP, Architectural and Structural co-ordination. Darryl Roe M&E Design Manager, Sir Robert McAlpine I have worked closely with TGA on many heritage projects. Many of these projects have been on complex ecclesiastical sites. TGA provide clear and effective advice. The delivery team are conscientious and hardworking and have always given my clients and I an excellent attentive service from concept inception to completion, and post completion to ‘fine tune’. They are positive members of the design team who are able to bring creative thinking and options to the process. TGA work well with contractors, providing reliable information, and are effective at inspecting the works as part of quality control. TGA’s experience in working on many heritage projects means they are well versed in the key challenges and issues faced by historic properties and the need for modern services. Partner, Purcell Architects Chris Cotton I have known and worked with TGA for the last 20 years and have seen them grow from strength to strength to become one of the best design consultants in the UK. Their ability to not only give technical support but also build ability through 3d modelling and BIM is second to none. TGA work well providing support through project bids and are always capable of delivering technical design schemes, regardless of the size, scale or complexity Their expertise in BIM, as well as their varied experience, including how they manage the transition between design and construction, is always of benefit in achieving a best value solution. Project Summary The project includes the conservation and refurbishment of a number of historic buildings including the Riding School, the Coach House and the Dutch Barn, as well a new build facilities in the form of a new Ticketing / Visitor Centre and the new Vinery Café. The project also involves extensive improvements to the gardens including in the formal walled gardens, the wider spaces in which this is set and a new children’s adventure play area. TGA’s Building Performance Team have undertaken the development and analysis of thermal models for the whole estate, including buildings that are not in the current project scope, to enable a site-wide thermal energy strategy to be developed to meet our Client’s aspirations in terms of the reduction of carbon emissions. The project includes a new energy centre, formed within a building that was originally constructed as a Gas House, and a district heating network served by an open loop ground source heat pump system. New electrical supplies are being brought onto the site, enabling existing overhead services to be removed. TGA’s M&E team have designed all M&E services in a series of separate buildings including a series of visitor facilities and exhibition spaces, some new build and others in listed, historic buildings. Our Specialist Lighting Designers are working both internally and in the gardens and paths between the buildings to develop sensitive and appropriate lighting solutions. Given the projects multi faceted nature, the lighting design encompasses, lighting to refurbished Grade 1 listed buildings, new build facilities and extensive external lighting. The site will be used for star gazing events and as such the lighting has been fully designed to comply with dark sky initiatives. Given the rural setting the local ecology, and particular bats, have been a major design influence. Want To Discuss A Project? Project Summary Boldon House comprises c.5,761 sqm Net Internal Floor Area plus 36 sqm external storage, plus car parking (circa 250 spaces). It is expected there to be around 600 staff allocated to the building, with 350 staff in the building at any one time, based on a split of 60 (work) / 40 home hybrid working. The project involves the complete strip out of the M&E installation, with the building forming part of a decarbonisation scheme supported by SALIX funding. A comprehensive Options Appraisal was conducted to evaluate the building fabric and explore the potential for Low & Zero Carbon Technologies. This method focuses on reducing energy requirements, the efficient use of energy, and then integrating low or zero carbon technologies in a sequential manner. This approach inherently provided the best value for money in terms of carbon savings. The project included collaboration from TGA’s Mechanical, Electrical, Building Information Modelling and Building Performance teams. As one TGA, the TGA team worked closely with the wider Design and Construction Teams, as well as working in tandem with the Estates team from the University. As part of the works, the existing gas fired boilers will be stripped out and replaced with a new air source heat pump system to meet the heating and hot water requirements of the building. Electrically, the building will be serviced by a new substation to cater for the increased electrical load. A new energy efficient LED lighting scheme will be provided throughout. The development also received a gold rating after a SKA assessment was carried out. SKA rating is an environmental assessment method, benchmark and standard for non-domestic fit-outs. Project Summary Award Winner - RIBA North East Award 2024, Winner - RIBA North East Conservation Award 2024, Winner - RIBA North East Building of the Year Award 2024, Winner - RIBA National Award 2024, VisitEngland Gold award The project involved the refurbishment, conservation and remodelling of the historic, grade 1 listed Castle buildings which have been occupied by the Bishops of Durham for over 800 years and delivered new exhibition spaces within the principle rooms of the Castle as well as visitor amenities including a café, retail facilities, kitchens, cloakrooms and toilets. Within the historic buildings, environmental control was delivered using heating systems controlled on conservation heating principles with a view to controlling relative humidity. In certain areas, additional controls were implemented with a view to achieving conditions required for loans covered by the Government Indemnity Scheme. New sensitively designed engineering services were installed throughout in order to provide modern systems required to deliver an outstanding visitor experience including new general and exhibition lighting systems, emergency lighting, automatic fire detection systems, electronic alarm and CCTV systems, access to general purpose power and data. New installations were carefully integrated so as to minimise the impact on the historic fabric and the sensitive aesthetic qualities of the spaces whilst ensuring that they performed to the required standards and meet contemporary expectations in terms of safe access for maintenance and energy consumption. A major extension was also constructed which provides both exhibition spaces capable of displaying loans of sensitive artefacts from international institutions as well as delivery facilities and a series of conservation workshops. These spaces are provided with close control air conditioning to enable the environment to be controlled in accordance with the requirements of the Bizot Green Protocol. A new Welcome Building was also constructed at the entrance to the site providing ticketing and orientation facilities as well as a shop and education spaces for use by visiting school parties or for lectures by the Trust’s curatorial staff. The Welcome Building incorporates an external tower which offers views over Bishop Auckland Marketplace as well as the Castle grounds and buildings. A newbuild Energy Centre was provided which serves the whole site with mechanical and electrical infrastructure services including low voltage electrical power, emergency maintained power, central fire alarms, data services, security and CCTV systems, disabled call services, domestic hot water, hot water services for heating and chilled water for cooling. The provision of a remote energy centre enables existing mechanical and electrical services infrastructure to be taken out of important historic spaces within the Castle buildings and focuses maintenance access, fire risk and plant noise away from the important historic buildings and the artefacts they contain. Image Credit - The Auckland Project Image Credit - The Auckland Project Image Credit - The Auckland Project Want To Discuss A Project? Contact us Testimonials Contact Us Throughout both Phases 1a and 1b, TGA continuously support, guide and provide the very best technical support for the project, TGA then worked with us on Phase 1c along with other projects on site.
