Redefining the Art of Sport Medicine Performance Nutrition Diet and nutrition is crucial to providing optimal health and fuel throughout training and performance. It is our diet that enables us to utilise the best of our ability, to recover and regenerate efficiently, and to maximise our energy output. At the Concordia Clinic, we have a performance nutrition coach and weight-cut specialist, qualified under the world renowned George Lockhart. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber is used to deliver almost pure oxygen to the body by increasing atmospheric pressure, which in turn increases the body’s oxygen absorption. This essentially floods and saturates the body with oxygen, which leads to accelerated cell repair and improving cellular function. We use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) primarily in the recovery of injuries and trauma, for routine sports recovery, and also to improve athletic output. HBOT is also used primarily in the treatment of brain injury and degeneration – This helps to reduce any damage inflicted during sport events, and help to prevent future complications. We also see a lot of patients with dementia, Alzheimers, and post-stroke, and have specific individual protocols that we determine after a full consultation. Sports & Medical Bodywork At Concordia Clinic, we have a number of practitioners that focus on the management of performance, and the prevention and recovery of injuries. Our sports & medical massage practitioners prioritise the need to remain able to train, and help the patient adapt to the current situation. They use diagnostics to help understand the issue, and use a combination of bodywork, massage, manipulation, cupping, acupuncture and electrotherapy. Advice and understanding is key to helping athletes recover quickly and efficiently. Our sports therapists are well experienced, and have been working with top elite athletes for over a decade. Localised Cryotherapy Whether in sports, wellness or medical treatment, cryotherapy is a modern method used in medical practice. Our cryotherapy is used in the sports medicine sector, to help with acute and chronic injuries, accelerating the rate of recovery reducing pain, inflammation and discomfort. Cold air is cooled down to a temperature of beteeen around -60c, and blown onto the specific area of injury. The local treatment provides a rush of oxygenated blood, a natural analgesic effect, and a reduction in muscle tension to the targeted area. Positive effects can be observed immediately after treatment in relation to pain relief and increased range of movement. Sports Psychology Sports Psychology aims at focussing on the mental apsects of athletic performance and wellbeing, often giving athletes that mental edge to reach their full potential during both training and during competition. Sports psychology is also aimed at helping athletes to overcome competitive pressures, increasing confidencd and self belief, athletic identity and also achieving ‘flow state.
