At the age of 18 I trained in a NATO residential institute where the training was based around recreation and exercise. At the age of 20 I was qualified as a PTI. Four years later I was responsible for the fitness of 450 men and women in my regiment. When I left the Army I furthered my career by studying in Manchester under the LCSP (London and counties sports physiologists) where I developed my knowledge base of sports massage and sports therapy. In addition to this I also trained as a spinal rehabilitation therapist. I joined the team at the Sheffield Chiropractic Clinic in 2003 on a part time basis but in 2004 I was soon working full time. During my time at the clinic I have attended numerous courses including Ultrasound application, Gait analysis, Dry Needle Therapy, FAKTR PM and instrument assisted massage. I enjoy all aspects of the job, especially the injury rehabilitation aspect and the challenging nature of balancing return to activity and optimising injury recovery. I have worked with a variety of athletes including, footballers, golfers, climbers and even WWF wrestlers. Paul has over 25 years’ experience and is highly recommended in the Sheffield area. After 4 years of hard work I managed to obtain a 1st Class Honours which was always a huge goal for me. I originally got into this amazing profession after coming to the Sheffield clinic for ongoing sport-related knee pain. After a few sessions I realised the true power of chiropractic and since then I have never turned back. In fact, my passion has only grown further. I have a strong interest in the sports aspect of chiropractic due to playing golf and football, with nothing bringing me more joy than helping a patient return to the activities they love. After working in various clinics around London, I decided that I really did miss the countryside and people of the North, so decided to move back to my roots. Hence my move to the Sheffield Chiropractic Clinic in 1999.I enjoy helping people with a wide range of conditions. I generally prefer more gentle Chiropractic treatments, and love adding new techniques to my repertoire. I also practice a form of Acupuncture called Dry Needle Therapy which can be beneficial for a variety of Musculoskeletal conditions. I believe in Chiropractic as a way of helping people get back on the road to recovery following accident or injury, and also as a way of helping yourself to remain fit and healthy. My patients have ranged in age from four to ninety four years, so I believe you are never too old or too young to benefit from Chiropractic care. In my spare time I love to travel out into Derbyshire. This was my second degree having already completed a degree in Nutrition, Health and Lifestyles in my home town of Sheffield.As a “local lad” my first experience of chiropractic came at a young age at the Sheffield Chiropractic Clinic and was amazed by how quickly I could get better after numerous sports injuries.Over recent years I have found that it is important to constantly improve my knowledge and learn new skills, having undertaken a variety of courses from dry needle therapy, instrument assisted massage and sports taping. This allows me to tailor treatments and make them more bespoke for each individual case.I enjoy my job and that is important, it is great seeing people getting better and feeling better and knowing that I have had a part to play in their health. It is also a great privilege to be entrusted to look after another persons wellbeing.I also enjoy the sports chiropractic side of my job having consulted for Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town over recent years. I have worked with climbers, cyclists and golfers at elite and professional level. When I am not at work I enjoy family life with my wife and my son. I enjoy cooking, socialising, and holidays. I try and enjoy the odd game of golf, and try to keep fit with a bit of running, as my football days seem well and truly behind me now.I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council and a member of the British Chiropractic Association and The Royal College of Chiropractors. Deciding that my greatest interest lay in the human body and it’s physiological achievements, after 3 years in York I headed back home to Birmingham and began studying for an MSc in Dance Science, graduating in 2012.It was the study of dancers as athletes that really inspired me to pursue a career in Sports Massage, and as I progressed through my training I discovered my love of working with all kinds of people.Since qualifying I have been lucky enough to work with both sporting and non-sporting professionals, in clinic, private and event settings. These included office workers, engineers, tradesmen, teachers, musicians, actors, dancers, horse riders, retired professionals and post-operative patients… to name a few!I am a member of the Institute of Sports and Remedial Massage (ISRM) and enjoy attending regular courses to keep my brain active and help me develop my technique. Having first-hand experience of both chiropractic and massage, I love how the two can work so well together and I am really excited to work at this established and well respected clinic. I first became aware of Chiropractic as a profession in 1999 as a young adult.I played rugby quite seriously, and began struggling with a number of injuries. A personal recommendation from a friend led me to see a Chiropractor in Oxfordshire and with the successful resolution of these injuries a new interest was born. This interest developed further and I began the necessary studies in order to become a chiropractor. My focus at school and University had been human biology and advanced physiology for performance, and my choice to return to college felt like the culmination in my original education.After graduating, I spent 2 years working at a clinic in Milton Keynes, until the position at the Mansfield Clinic became available. This has enabled me to gain valuable clinical experience in a great environment. In addition to conventional chiropractic care I have developed a special interest in sports injuries, particularly swimming, cycling and running and have had the opportunity to work closely with athletes at a high level in these fields. I also keep up-to-date with recent developments in sports physiology, especially coaching, diet and nutrition.I stopped playing rugby in my late twenties, and changed my focus to endurance sports and the triathlon scene. This has evolved to an individual focus in cycling. I love to travel and have combined these interests with some European cycling events over the last few years. It also gives me a good excuse for reunions with friends who are scattered across Europe, see different countries and experience new cultures.I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council and a member of the British Chiropractic Association and The Royal College of Chiropractors.
