Lisa first experienced acupuncture in 2001 for a painful low back when a friend recommended an acupuncturist. I was sceptical that having needles in my body would help my sore back, however, it worked wonders and all these years later I still go to the same acupuncturist whenever I can to stay healthy. Lisa’s background is in horses, training, breeding, and competing (hence my sore back all those years ago)! Alongside her recently embarked on career as an acupuncturist, Lisa also home-educates her two younger children, which is a full-time job in itself. Four years ago, she decided to re-train to become an acupuncturist, and having completed two years at The Northern collage of Acupuncture, she decided to complete her training with Total Therapy. Lisa’s practice is founded on the belief that we must promote health through balance; balance in diet, sleep, exercise, relaxation, emotions and lifestyle. Her goal is to provide a treatment that can reverse and prevent disease using the fundamental healing principles of the body. Sue initially trained in Ergonomics and Human Factors achieving a Combined Honours Degree and PhD. This enabled her to identify work issues and look to make system changes to support those working or using them. She was however conscious that for some individuals this intervention came too late and they were already experiencing health issues. In 2008 Sue therefore returned to University at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading and successfully achieved a first class honours degree and permission to practice integrated TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and five element acupuncture. Her research project assessed the use of Acupuncture for alleviating stress and depression. Later she extended her capabilities to include the treatment of children by undertaking and achieving a Post Graduate Diploma in Paediatric Acupuncture. This was followed by courses in acupuncture for fertility (achieving the requirements of the Acupuncture Fertility Network), acupuncture in pregnancy and childbirth from Debra Betts (an internationally recognised supervisor of midwives and founder of the first pregnancy acupuncture clinic in New Zealand. Sue has also undertaken a number of courses to treat sports injuries and musculoskeletal pain, including arthritis and other causes of chronic pain plus courses addressing the link between illness/wellness and food. As a member of the BAcC, Sue continues to undertake regular training and continuous professional development in order to keep her knowledge fresh and supportive of all; children, women and men of all ages. He is trained in integrative approaches that emphasise the relationship between client and counsellor as the vehicle that facilitates change for the client. Andy’s approach integrates ideas and strategies from a number of psychological approaches e.g. humanistic, psychodynamic and analytic, CBT, plus others. Also, he draws on latest developments from the research literature and neuroscience. Forming these into a client centred, philosophically coherent approach aimed towards a richer & more authentic way of living. The courses included in-depth and advanced study in human physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, manual therapy, sports massage, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, pain and injury management and strength and conditioning. Paul’s journey into health, fitness and rehabilitation began with his own injury to his hand, sustained whilst working as a chef. The injury required 3 rounds of surgery and 2 years of rehabilitation to help him get back to normal function. It was during this process that Paul realised something was missing in his rehabilitative journey – whilst he could confidently use his hand normally again, he had lost a lot of fitness and confidence in his body’s ability to move and function at its best – and he discovered his desire to help others in similar situations have a better experience in getting back to former levels of health and fitness after pain or injury. Since university Paul has been building on his knowledge, gaining additional qualifications in Osteopathic and Chiropractic treatment techniques and working with spinal experts to learn new and cutting edge ways to help treat complex spinal and postural disorders, such as scoliosis, Scheurmann’s disease, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, hyperkyphosis, and the more common issues of lower back and neck pain, chronic pain, headaches and a wide spectrum of soft tissue and joint injuries. Paul uses a Cognitive Functional approach in his practice, analysing the behavioural psychology and beliefs surrounding peoples movement patterns and pain experience. Due to the multidimensional nature of pain, Paul believes we cannot focus solely on the physical factors of pain, we must also work to improve the modifiable pain behaviours we all adopt in the early stages of a pain journey. He will help you identify the modifiable factors associated with your pain and movement, and help you explore these behaviours to move better, experience less pain and gain a better understanding and relationship with your body and the way it moves. Founder and Clinic Director of The Natural Healthcare Centre in 1999. Director and clinician of Acuhealth Limited. Principal of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine at The Natural Healthcare Centre in Burton on Trent. Grahame started his studies in Chinese medicine in 1991. He graduated as a shiatsu practitioner in 1994 and acupuncturist in the UK in 1997 and then continued his studies in Shanghai, China. His Chinese Herbal Medicine training was completed in 2004 and he now uses the powerful combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition and tui na massage very effectively for a huge range of conditions. His nutrition training begun in 1999 in the United States with IHT and has continued with regular visits back to the USA ever since. He offers treatments in a wide range of disorders, with specialist clinics for infertility and hormone imbalances, digestive problems, fatigue, pain, dermatology, as well as auto-immune & allergic disease. He has been in practice now for 27 years and has carried out close to 27,000 individual treatments. Grahame regularly attends Continual Professional Development events and courses for acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and tuina massage. His science and business background complements his love and passion for Chinese medicine theory and practise. He especially enjoys the therapeutic aspects of TCM diagnosis and consultation with his patients and loves the thrill of his patients getting better during the course of their treatment.
